Westcott Street's Fall Nights After the Marquee Came Down

The Westcott Theater's concerts have left the neighborhood, and evenings on Westcott Street now run on a few dining rooms and one library parking lot. On Sept. 28, the Syracuse Common Council unanimously revoked the special-use permit that let the venue at 524 Westcott St. host live music and other events that draw large crowds, WAER reported. By early October the signs were down. Syracuse.com reported that "The Westcott" marquee, lit with working bulbs in every curved black letter, no longer hangs on the front of the building, and the doors have lost their round black-and-white stickers.

That leaves one building at 524–526 Westcott with one dark half and one half still open. Alto Cinco, the Mexican restaurant in the same address range, now has the latest closing time of any business on the strip. Below is how the rest of the street fits around it this fall.

Half of 524–526 Westcott Is Still Serving

County restaurant inspection records list Alto Cinco at 524–526 Westcott Street. It passed a Sept. 30, 2026 inspection with no problems, according to syracuse.com's weekly inspection roundup. The Westcott Neighborhood Association's directory lists the restaurant's address as 526.

Hours matter more than they used to. Alto Cinco's posted schedule runs like this:

  • Monday: closed
  • Tuesday: kitchen 4 to 10 p.m.
  • Wednesday through Sunday: kitchen 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Bar: open until midnight Tuesday through Saturday

The restaurant also posts weekly specials and a happy hour. On the weeknights the theater used to fill, the lit window on that corner is now a midnight bar, and it's closed Mondays.

The Promoter Books Its Shows in Jordan Now

The theater's promoter now books its shows in Jordan. An Oct. 16 dating and comedy show listed by Westcott Presents was moved from the Westcott to Kegs Canalside in Jordan, syracuse.com reported. The two November headliners on the Westcott Presents site are both at Kegs Canalside:

Date Act Venue Doors Show
Fri., Nov. 6, 2026 Chris Webby Kegs Canalside, Jordan 7 p.m. 8 p.m.
Fri., Nov. 13, 2026 Bear Grillz Kegs Canalside, Jordan 8 p.m. 9 p.m.

Both listings show a sold-out badge. If you used to walk to these shows, you'll now need a ride to the canal.

The legal case is still going. The venue's owner sued the city after an event license was denied in August, following an Aug. 13 closure by Code Enforcement, according to syracuse.com's Sept. 23 coverage. CNY Central reported that a state judge said the city might have violated the theater's First Amendment rights. The judge allowed the property to keep operating for purposes that don't require a special license. As of Oct. 7, lawyers on both sides were setting a date for the next hearing. District councilor Jimmy Monto told WAER he hopes for a reset that lets concerts and events resume. For now, the building at 524 has no live-event calendar.

Live Music Moved to a Restaurant Stage on the Same Block

Original music is still playing on Westcott Street. It's just in a smaller room. On Oct. 15, Munjed's Middle Eastern & Greek Café held Songwriters Live, with Harmonic Dirt Duo, A-ONE, and Jeff and Judy Stanton playing original songs on the restaurant's stage from 6 to 8:30 p.m. There was no cover, and dinner, drinks and dessert were served throughout, according to the neighborhood association's event listing. The listing strongly recommended reservations at (315) 425-0366. Munjed's own site lists that same number for pickup orders, and its delivery listings give the address as 505 Westcott St.

A seated, no-cover songwriter night at a restaurant is a very different evening from a sold-out headliner. For now, that smaller room is where original music plays on Westcott Street.

The Rest of the Strip, by Address

The theater's absence changes what the surrounding storefronts are for after dark. Here's what's operating on the blocks around it this fall, each confirmed by a 2026 record:

Address Business What's there now
473 Westcott St. The Boom Beyond / Boom Babies Vintage Vintage clothing storefront, featured by thisiscny.com in September
501 Westcott St. Mom's Diner Diner, listed in the WNA directory
505 Westcott St. Munjed's Middle Eastern and Greek café with a performance stage
524–526 Westcott St. Alto Cinco Kitchen until 10 p.m., bar until midnight Tues.–Sat.
534 Westcott St. DuVal Ioli Pizza Passed its Sept. 30 county inspection
558 Westcott St. Stackhouse Deli & Desserts Open seven days, in the former Yeti space

The newest entry is at 558. Yeti Frozen Yogurt & Cafe closed in July after nearly six years. Syracuse.com reported that Stackhouse took over the space after a planned merger of the two businesses fell through. The menu is much heavier than the old café's. Stackhouse lists smash burgers, Nashville hot chicken, deli sandwiches, crepes and waffles, and it kept frozen yogurt on the board. One block from the dark marquee, the froyo machines are still running.

Coffee is just around the corner. The WNA directory lists Recess Coffee at 110 Harvard Place.

The Big Crowds Now Come in Daylight

The street's largest crowd this fall gathered in daylight. On Sunday, Sept. 27, the Westcott Street Cultural Fair brought thousands of people out in rainy, cloudy weather, thisiscny.com reported. The fair had more than 140 booths and 15 local musicians on three stages. It was also the first year with a free shuttle meant to ease parking, according to syracuse.com. Mom's Diner served food outside that day.

The next big neighborhood gathering is a Saturday morning, organized by the Westcott Neighborhood Association and based at Petit Branch Library, 105 Victoria Pl. Its listing for the Halloween Dog Parade reads:

"All your furry friends are invited to strut their stuff at the Westcott Neighborhood Association's 5th annual Halloween Dog Parade."

The event page sets it for Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It's free. The parade gathers in the library parking lot and walks a half-mile route through the neighborhood, with live music from Second Line Syracuse, a New Orleans-style brass band. Afterward, everyone is invited back to the library for cider and donuts donated by The Summit Federal Credit Union. The WNA calendar also lists a neighborhood litter cleanup before the parade steps off.

What's Left on the Calendar Through Nov. 13

Starting this Thursday, Oct. 22, here's what's still ahead between the library, the WNA and the relocated shows:

  1. Sat., Oct. 24, 2:30–4:30 p.m.: Gnome Gardens at Petit Branch Library. Free, registration required.
  2. Sat., Oct. 24: Saturday story time at Petit Branch.
  3. Mon., Oct. 26: Book discussion of "The Sea of Tranquility" at Petit Branch.
  4. Tue., Oct. 27: Combined toddler and preschool story time.
  5. Thu., Oct. 29: After-school pony-bead ghost keychain activity.
  6. Sat., Oct. 31, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Litter cleanup, then the Halloween Dog Parade from the library lot.
  7. Fri., Nov. 6: Chris Webby at Kegs Canalside in Jordan, listed as sold out.
  8. Mon., Nov. 9, 6–7:30 p.m.: WNA monthly board and member meeting at Petit Branch, free, with Zoom available by advance registration.
  9. Fri., Nov. 13: Bear Grillz at Kegs Canalside, listed as sold out.

The Nov. 9 meeting is the neighborhood's regular public forum, and the next one on the calendar since the Council vote.

After that, the next date to watch is Small Business Saturday. In an April 2026 neighborhood profile, thisiscny.com noted that Good Tidings on Westcott, a holiday market held the same day as Small Business Saturday, had run for the previous four years. No 2026 date has been posted yet.
